Our Legal Marriage at the Courthouse

My fiancé (now husband!) and I are getting married in Riviera Maya, Mexico on October 23, 2021. We had the choice to either legally get married in Mexico (which is a bit complicated) or legally get married here in North Carolina and then have a symbolic ceremony in Mexico. We chose to do the later!

For our legal marriage at the courthouse in Charlotte, we didn’t want to make a huge deal about it. We didn’t want any family or friends to attend or have a big celebration afterwards - that’s what our wedding is for! We also do not want to use this courthouse date as our wedding date. But we did ask our photographer, Erica Serrano, to capture it on camera - and I’m so glad we did!

Marco and I did not know what to expect when going to the courthouse. He wore a navy suit, I wore a silk champagne-colored midi dress, I ordered a bouquet of flowers from an online florist (lol!), and we brought some paperwork. We were both surprised when the judge had us exchange vows and kiss - it felt more real than we thought it would! After that took place and we took some photos, we had a late lunch/early dinner at one of our favorite restaurants in South End Charlotte. It was a lovely day and memory.

Check out our photos below - I absolutely love how they turned out. I also love, love, love how my makeup turned out this day (of course I did my own).
