Beauty Appointments to Make Before Your Wedding Day
If you're a bride-to-be, you are probably well aware of the hundreds of things to do leading up to your wedding day. In between the craziness of choosing a theme and color palette, selecting vendors, asking friends and family to be in your party, and so much more, don't forget about yourself! The day you get married is a day you want to SHINE, and like I always say, when you look your best, you feel your best!
Don't forget to make these beauty appointments before your wedding day. They will have you feeling top-notch and ready to walk down that aisle!
Makeup and Hair Style Trials
This might be a no-brainer, but whenever you nail down your hair and makeup artists, don't forget to book a trial with them. If you book me as your makeup artist (yay!), you don't need to do a trial, but I highly recommend it. Let me explain why...
I spend more time during your trial than we will actually spend together doing makeup on your wedding day. We spend time getting to know each other, talk about your wedding style and your personal style (your dress, theme, color palette, etc.), talk about your makeup comfort level (do you wear makeup on a daily basis, are you a natural girl or glam girl, etc.), and of course, actually do your makeup. Then you can let me know if it's exactly what you had in mind, or if we need to tweak anything. This allows us to guarantee that your makeup will be exactly what you want on your wedding day!
Same goes for hair - definitely schedule a trial session so that you can be sure everything is exactly what you want. Want to wear extensions on your wedding day but never wore them before? Definitely test something like that our during the trial. Same with flower crowns, hair clips, etc.
Dermatologist/Facialist Appointments
Your makeup can't be on fleek if your skin isn't on fleek! (side note: do people still use the word fleek? Probably not but oh well.) I can certainly do my best to cover blemishes, scars, and what not, but if you take care of your skin during the months leading up to your wedding, this will make things so much easier and better.
You should make appointments to visit your dermatologist and favorite facialist at least six months prior to your wedding day. I would schedule monthly facial appointments if your budget allows - well worth it! Your skin will thank you.
Teeth Whitening Appointment
Nowadays, you can get a beaming, bright, white smile in a matter of 45 minutes! When I was in high school and college, I used to use Crest White Strips, but I always found them to be so annoying. You have to sit there with the strip stuck to your teeth once or twice a day for a certain amount of days, and it's just an annoying process.
Last year, I got my teeth laser whitened and it was such a game changer! My teeth got to the whitest white you can have for teeth...and in a matter of 45 minutes. If you live in Rochester, I went to Bare Element (where I also go for laser hair removal, lash lifts, and facials), and loved the experience. The results last 6 months to 2 years, depending on your drinking habits (drinking coffee, red wine, etc.).
Hair Color/Cut Appointment
I reached out to one of my close friends and hair stylists, Michelle Haymes Dupont from The K Salon, to give some insight on when you should make hair appointments. "I recommend getting your hair colored and trimmed the week of your wedding day, that way your hair is fresh and has body!" Now is probably not the best time to decide to go from long locks to a bob - just a trim and color touch up should do the trick to have your hair looking fabulous.
Spray Tan Appointment
If you follow me on Instagram, you probably know how much I love self-tanner. I apply it on myself at least once a week to maintain some sort of glow throughout the entire year. Having a tan just makes me feel better about myself (well, a faux tan that is!). My go-to self-tanning product is this one by St. Tropez and I swear by this mitt to apply it.
To watch how I apply self-tanner, check out this video tutorial (which I recorded almost two years ago...should probably record an updated version). The mitt that I now use is different (linked above) but the self-tanner and methodology are the same.
If applying self-tan on yourself doesn't seem like the greatest idea, make a spray tan appointment! However, don't try it out for the first time/only time the week of your wedding. I would start going for spray tans a few months leading up to your wedding to ensure the color and place you go works well for you. After being a pro makeup artist for more than seven years now, I've seen my fair share of terrible spray tans - don't let that happen to you on your wedding day!
Nail Appointment
This is probably the most obvious, but don't forget to get your nails done! I love gel nails because they're still your own (versus acrylics) and last 2-3 weeks. Neutral shades such as OPI's Bubble Bath, Be There In A Prosecco, Don't Burst My Bubble, and Essie's Ballet Slippers (all very similar shades) are perfect for weddings. I would do this one or two days before your wedding to ensure your nails are as fresh as possible. Make an appointment with your momma and bridesmaids to turn it into a fun date!
