My Mom’s Makeup Transformation
Let me walk you through a recent look I created on one of my most opinionated clients – my mom. She’s 60 years young with mature but beautiful skin, and while she doesn’t hold back on her feedback, we always have a great time creating looks together.
This one was focused on enhancing her natural features, giving her a radiant, youthful glow, and most importantly – using formulas that flatter mature skin.
STEP 1: Prep and Hydrate
I started with Trinny London Take Back Time Eye Treatment to smooth and hydrate the delicate under-eye area, followed by Rhode Skin Glazing Milk for all-over moisture and glow. Then I layered on Jones Road Light Moisture Cream to lock it in and topped it with Rhode Skin Glazing Mist for a hydrated, dewy finish.
For the lips, I applied Tatcha The Kissu Lip Mask to nourish and prep them for color later.
STEP 2: Brows First
Before moving into complexion, I shaped and set her brows using Gucci Eyebrow Pencil in the shade Chatin and Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Freeze for hold and lift.
STEP 3: Base and Correct
For foundation, I used Hourglass Veil Hydrating Skin Tint Foundation in shade 9 for a lightweight but perfected finish. To neutralize any darkness, I tapped in Natasha Denona Color Corrector in shade C2, followed by Armani Luminous Silk Concealer under the eyes and around the nose for brightness.
STEP 4: Warmth and Dimension
I layered Fenty Beauty Sun Stalk’r Bronzer in Caramel Cutie for a soft warmth, then added Westman Atelier Sun Tone Bronzing Drops for hydration and a sun-touched glow. I also added a touch of YSL Sunkissed Glow Bronzer in shade 3 Medina to finish the dimension.
STEP 5: Blush That Lasts
Blush is key to a youthful glow. I used Patrick Ta Crème & Powder Blush Duo in She's Flushed on the apples of her cheeks, then layered Haus Labs Color Fuse Blush Balm Stick in Glassy Cayenne for extra radiance. For a pop of color, I tapped on Makeup By Mario Soft Pop Blush Veil in Perfect Pink right at the high points.
STEP 6: Set Strategically
I set her T-zone and under-eyes lightly with Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder in shade 2. Just enough to keep things in place without losing the glow.
STEP 7: Eyes That Define Without Aging
On her lids, I used Tom Ford Eye Color Quad Palette for soft definition and Danessa Myricks Colorfix Waterproof Pigment for long-wearing depth. I lined her upper lash line with Make Up For Ever Artist Color Pencil and finished with a few coats of Maybelline Colossal Bubble Mascara in black for lifted, separated lashes.
STEP 8: Lips That Pop Without Settling
I outlined her lips using Make Up For Ever Lip Liner in Wherever Walnut and applied Hourglass Phantom Glossy Balm in Crave. The combo gave hydration, volume, and long-lasting shine without feathering.
STEP 9: Lock It All In
To finish the look, I misted One/Size Powder Melt Setting Spray all over. This step sealed everything in place and gave her skin a beautiful, healthy finish.
This routine brought out her natural features while keeping everything light, hydrated, and age-appropriate. These formulas really do the work, especially on mature skin. If you’re looking to recreate this look, you can find everything I used right here.
