How to Transition Your Makeup from Summer to Fall
As the seasons change, so should your makeup routine (well, if you want it to - I think it’s fun to switch things up)! The shift from summer to fall brings cooler temperatures, drier air, and a whole new color palette to play with. If you want to keep your makeup looking fresh and in tune with the season, here are some easy adjustments to make as you transition from summer glow to autumn glam.
1. Swap Your Lightweight Base for a Hydrating Foundation
During the summer, many of us reach for lightweight, oil-free foundations or even tinted moisturizers. As fall approaches and the air becomes drier, consider switching to a more hydrating foundation or mixing in a drop of facial oil with your current foundation for added moisture. If you have oily skin, a satin or natural finish foundation can provide hydration without looking greasy.

2. Adjust Your Shade Range
Your summer foundation may no longer match as your tan starts to fade. If your skin tone changes, mix a bit of your summer and winter foundation shades to create a custom match. Alternatively, using a sheer foundation or skin tint can help bridge the gap between shades.
3. Incorporate Richer, Warmer Tones
Summer is all about bronzed, sun-kissed skin, but fall calls for richer, deeper hues. Swap your bright corals and soft pinks for warm terracotta, burnt orange, mauve, and berry tones. Try incorporating these shades in your eyeshadow, blush, and lip colors to embrace the seasonal shift.

4. Embrace Cream Products for a Natural Glow
Drier air can make powder products look cakey or flat. Transitioning to cream blushes, bronzers, and highlighters will keep your skin looking fresh and hydrated.
5. Update Your Lip Color
Fall is the perfect time to experiment with deeper lip shades. Trade in your sheer glosses and bright pinks for rich nudes, warm cinnamon, deep berries, or classic red tones. If you prefer a subtle change, try a lip stain or a sheer lipstick in a warmer shade.

6. Set Your Makeup for Longevity
Cooler weather doesn’t mean you should skip setting your makeup. If your skin is on the drier side, opt for a hydrating setting spray instead of powder. For those with combination or oily skin, a light dusting of translucent powder in the T-zone can help control shine while keeping your skin looking fresh.

Final Thoughts
Transitioning your makeup from summer to fall doesn’t have to be drastic—it’s all about small, intentional changes. By adjusting your foundation, embracing richer tones, and keeping your skin hydrated, you can create a seamless seasonal shift while keeping your makeup fresh and flattering.
